Turmeric has incredible health benefits due to its compound curcumin. It is known that curcumin lowers inflammation and boosts the immune system. But did you know that it can also help to stop the progression of chronic conditions such as endometriosis or arthritis? Turns out that curcumin does way more than reducing inflammation.
You can learn all about it in my post on curcumin and endometriosis here.
Since endo is something that affects me personally, I look for ways to include powerful natural substances in my daily routines to support my body. Curcumin is one of those power substances I came across when researching ways to relive endometriosis pain.
I remembered how my mom showed me a new drink she had found in a local delicacies shop at home. It was bright yellow and had this nice tart and slightly bitter taste as it was packed with curcumin. I had to make my own version of it, since it is not just addictively delicious, but also contains a multitude of health benefits for anyone who wants to boost and maintain their health.
This recipe contains citrus fruits and apricots to give the turmeric a nice balance. Make sure to include the black pepper and olive oil for better absorption of curcumin. I also added some honey for its enzymes and antioxidant properties. Blend everything together in a high speed blender until nice and smooth. Add the turmeric after everything is blended together and transfer into a glass bottle immediately to avoid staining your blender.
My favourite way to drink it is pure, poured over some ice cubes - in a fancy martini glass for the extra vibes. I also like to take a double dose of the drink and mix it with cold sparkling water, some ice and a slice of fresh lime for a summer cocktail-like feeling. There are endless creative ways to serve it. If you want to prepare it for later, simply pour it into an ice cube tray (but be aware that turmeric leaves stains!). Take one ice cube and pour hot water over it to treat yourself on a cozy winter day.
Now go ahead, make yourself a nice batch of this turmeric drink and serve it to your loved ones next time you have a gathering and do something good for their health too.
Pro tip: if you happen to stain some kitchen tools or even your clothes with turmeric, simply put them in the sun for 30–60 minutes and the stains will disappear.
Ingredients
Juice of 2 oranges, plus 1 whole orange
1 whole lemon, peeled
1 cm fresh ginger
2 (or more) ripe apricots
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1-2 tablespoons olive oil
2 full tablespoons turmeric powder
Blend everything except for turmeric on high speed for 2–3 minutes until very smooth, then add the turmeric and blend to combine. Transfer the mixture to a glass gar and rinse blender immediately to avoid staining. If your kitchen utensils are discoloured, simply place them in the sun for 30–60 minutes and the stains will disappear.
Serve a small amount pure over ice or mix a cocktail with sparkling water, ice and fresh citrus slices. Alternatively, freeze the drink in ice cube trays and pour over sparkling water for a cold refreshment in summer or boiling water for tea in winter.
Enjoy ☀️
